Root Canal Treatment: Save Your Tooth, Restore Your Smile
Dr. Rajendra Desai’s Dental Clinic & Implant Centre, Bardoli
Hearing the words “root canal” can make patients feel anxious. Understanding why treatment is needed and what it involves can help you approach your appointment with greater confidence.
Root canal treatment offers a way to treat infection inside a tooth while preserving the natural tooth whenever possible.
What Is Root Canal Treatment?
Inside your tooth is soft tissue called the pulp, which contains nerves and blood vessels. Deep decay, cracks or an injury can damage this tissue and lead to inflammation or infection.
Root canal treatment removes the affected pulp, cleans the canals inside the roots, and fills and seals the space. The tooth then needs an appropriate final restoration to protect it and restore its function.
What Symptoms Need Attention?
Arrange a dental examination if you notice:
Tooth pain when biting or chewing.
Sensitivity to hot or cold that continues after the stimulus is removed.
Swelling or tenderness around a tooth.
A recurring pimple on the gum.
A tooth becoming darker.
These signs do not automatically mean you need root canal treatment. Your dentist will examine the tooth and perform the necessary tests to identify the cause.
Is Root Canal Treatment Painful?
Local anaesthesia is usually used to numb the tooth before treatment. Its purpose is to keep you comfortable while the dentist treats the affected area. Tell your dentist if you feel discomfort during the procedure.
Some tenderness afterwards can occur. Follow your dentist’s instructions, and contact the clinic if you develop swelling, severe or persistent pain, or an uneven bite.
Will You Need a Crown?
The final restoration depends on the tooth’s position and how much healthy tooth structure remains. Back teeth commonly need crowns because they carry substantial chewing forces. Some front teeth may be suitable for a different restoration. Your dentist will recommend protection suited to your tooth.
Caring for Your Tooth After Treatment
Completing the final filling or crown is an essential part of treatment. Until the tooth is fully restored, avoid biting heavily or chewing hard foods on it. Continue gentle brushing and cleaning between your teeth, and attend your follow-up appointments.
Give Your Natural Tooth the Care It Deserves
A consultation can help you understand whether your tooth can be saved and which treatment is appropriate.
At Dr. Rajendra Desai’s Dental Clinic & Implant Centre, we welcome you to discuss your concerns and take the next step towards a healthier smile.
